3 Days Kibale Chimpanzee Trekking Safari is a fascinating safari that will take you to Kibale national park in western Uganda where you will have a face to face encounter with the endangered chimpanzees and other primates like grey-cheeked mangabey, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, olive baboons in their natural habitat. During the safari, you will also take park in an interesting nature walk in Bigodi swamp where you will have views of different bird species, butterflies, primates, mammals among others.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale national park, upon arrival at Entebbe airport on the first day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park you will be welcomed by our representative who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Kibale national park which is located in western Uganda. The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours drive using Kampala- Mubende road, on the way you will have en-route lunch in Fort Portal and enjoy spectacular views of the beautiful landscape, traditional homesteads, local people, terraced farmlands, tea and banana plantations, views of the crater lakes, Rwenzori mountain ranges among others. Upon arrival in Kibale national park you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

Chimpanzee trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a chimpanzee family to trek and a park guide who is conversant about trails in the forest. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees slept the previous night. During trekking you will have views of wildlife species including butterflies, birds, plants, primates, mammals among others and once the chimpanzees are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their behaviors, habits, watch them feed, breastfeed, play, hunt, fight, rest, take photos and record videos with a flash less camera. After the chimpanzee trekking experience you will meet up with your driver guide and return to the lodge for lunch.

Bigodi swamp walk, after lunch you will go for an exciting nature walk in Bigodi sanctuary where you will be able to view different primates like black and white colobus monkeys, L’hoest monkeys, red tailed monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey, mammals like bushbucks, Sitatungas, view different bird species like the great blue turaco, green breasted pitta, papyrus gonolek, colorful butterflies among others. After the swamp walk you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Departure to Kampala

After a relaxed breakfast on the last day of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Kibale national park, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. On the way you will have a stopover at Igongo cultural centre for en-route lunch where after you will continue the journey to Kampala arriving early evening. Upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight or drop you off at any place of advise.
